I chose the health education sector, the standard focused on prevention and decision-making for third-grade students. Benchmark HE.3.PHC.3.2 stood out to me because it highlights the importance of children making informed decisions about their own bodies regarding oral hygiene and diet. Using technology through online learning, this benchmark emphasizes how the foods children choose can either positively or negatively affect their nutritional health. I feel confident introducing this standard into my classroom as a personal trainer and I enjoy a healthy lifestyle.
I believe the resources from these standards can be effectively used in my classroom by utilizing the online technology materials provided, specifically the digital articles and visual materials. These digital resources will keep students engaged throughout understanding the importance of their decision making and its impact on their health.
Being a proficient internet searcher is important for teachers because it improves their ability to dive deeper into online research and reading. This skill is especially useful for understanding what students might be referring to in their own internet research. The skill I think I will use the most is reverse image searches because it is new to me and extremely useful for finding information when you can't describe it in words.
My initial thoughts about using Artificial Intelligence in a K-12 setting are hopeful. I believe providing guidance and clarity when introducing this technology in the classroom can expand our students’ ability to learn and understand new and old concepts. As educators and adults, it is essential that we teach the new generation how systems of Artificial Intelligence work in order to ensure students don’t rely solely upon the technology they are using. When students can use AI for understanding instead of relying on it for answers to a classroom assignment or assessment it can create a positive learning environment.
